I am near Des Moines, Iowa, it's just under 1,000 miles. I have been to Florida many times, but my wife has never been to the Gulf ocean . We wanted a trip that wasn't going to take forever, and yet have a decent family beach area. Seems there's a water park and zoo there as well. I think we are actually going to stay in Foley, as I know how outrageous beach hotels can be. Basically, I am asking anyone who has been to the public beach at Gulf Shores if it is decent, if they have natural beaches where you can find shells, and if April would be warm enough to swim.
