Cruises to alaska without canada stop?

Question: Cruises to alaska without canada stop?

(Posted by: rohit r on 2010-03-19 08:43:58)

I am planning for a 5- 7 day cruise from westcoast to Alaska. I dont want to go thru the hassle of getting a Canada visa. Are there any cuises that go directly to Alaska without stopping in Canada.

The other answers are correct. A stop in a foreign country is required before the ship returns to the U.S. But it's not an issue of Canadian law...it's US law that requires it.

No. Sailing through Canadian waters requires at least one stop.

Any ship sailing from US and back to the US is required to make a stop in a foreign country, so any Alaska cruise originating in Seattle will make a stop in Vancouver or Victoria. Is you're a US citizen, you won't need a Canadian visa.

NO, that is not possible. You see there is this law called the Jones act which states that all ships which are registered in a foreign port(which means all cruise ships in the USA), must go to a foreign port(Canada) by law. Even when you cruise to Hawaii, the cruise ships go down to Ensenada or somewhere in Mexico. But check with your country's rules about visa's. Here in the USA, we don't need a passport for a closed loop cruise(one that starts and ends from the same U.S. port if you are a citizen. So, maybe your country is the same.

Nope, Since you travel through Canadian waters, they require a stop there. You don't have to get off the ship though, and many of the stops are quite short.
