I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska for 3 years. The schooling is based from grades K-6, 7-8, then 9-12 when I lived there. Alaska is basically alway sunny in the summer, you only get a few hours of darkness. The weather is pleasant...not too hot, not too cold. In winter, its mostly dark with few hours of light. Its cold the first winter you experience.... but then you get used to it. Its not as cold because the air is dry, not moist. The nature/ scenery is so wonderful! You see all kinds of wildlife, from moose to bears, to eagles, and everything else. I went to Denali national park and seen tons of animals. If you visit Barrow, you can see polar bears. I know Fairbanks has grown since I been there.... but Alaska was my favorite place to live! And every year each member in your family gets the dividend which usually is around $600-$1500 per person into your pocket around tax time. Everything costs alittle more than normal.... but you get it back with the dividend anyway plus more! Alaska is the best place to go. make sure you go down to Haines or Juneau to take a whale watching tour. Sitka is a good historical little town. Anchorage is the largest city, so take a visit there too. Also, University of Alaska is in Fairbanks too. Plus they have Alaska Land (which is now Pioneer land)...its like a convention type center with art shows and things like that...and it has a park beside it).

Read the local newspaper regularly. Fairbanks is just like any other city in the Lower 48; stores, gas stations, banks, etc. If you want to learn more about the area you could pick up lots of brochures at any Visitors Center. Never leave the house without a jacket because the weather changes quickly. In the summer always wear bug dope becuase the mosquitos are furious and everywhere! Take pics and make lots of great memories!
