Question: What can happen if someone goes to tijuana and wants to come back to california with no passport?

They do have a birth certificate and ID from USA. But no passport.

If its a US passport you lost and you are a US citizen, you should have no problem with your birth certificate and a drivers license from the DMV. Otherwise if you want to wait in Tijuana to get a new passport, you can do this at the embassy in Tijuana, but because of the length of time it might take, I would not suggest it, Tijuana can be a risky place to be for Americans, especially women, or if you are alone and under 18.

You know you are supposed to have a passport or a passport card. The passport card is quicker and cheaper... about $40 at the post office. But okay... you don't have a passport. They can give you a hard time, ask you a lot of questions, and make you wait around. But with a birth certificate and driver's license you probably will get by. A lot will depend on how the individual border agent sizes you up. Do you look Hispanic? Will you be carrying a lot of bags? Are you alone or with others... what do they look like. But if you must, you must. If you are an US citizen... you will be allowed to come home. Enjoy Baja! ~K
