In my experience, Tallahassee is a beautiful, friendly city. Yes, there are gators and humidity because it is Florida but not nearly as bad as some other cities farther South. Tallahassee is a city made up primarily of middle age upper middle class families. There is a large college population because Florida State University is here, but it does not feel like a "college town " like Gainesville does. The city is beautifully covered in big oak trees and canopy roads. There are hills all over town too, which you won't find many other places in Florida. Though it does get warm in summer, it is not unbearable, and much more tolerable than any place in Florida during the summer. There is plenty of nightlife due to the large college population along with great restaurants. Tallahassee has the local chains you would expect but also a great many hidden gems - mom and pop type places that are delicious! Plenty of shopping between two malls and numerous shopping centers. The surrounding area is host to a national forest, a national seashore, a freshwater spring, and plenty of hiking and nature trails. If you are outdoorsy, you will love it here! There also are gorgeous parks all over town. |
