Question: I'm planning to attend the university of west georgia?
(Posted by: msballentine on 2010-02-01 11:33:31)
I'm planning to attend UWG, I haven't applied yet but it's where I want to go. I want to know, what's it like there? What's the school like? What does everyone do for fun? Do you get into basketball/ football games free? Is there tailgating? What's the night life like, are there any beaches or anything? Basically, what do students do for fun there. Thank you! |

My sister goes to West GA and I have visited many times, night life is definatly all about the bars! There are lots of fun bars down there, rum runners is the favorite. A great/ fun place to get mexican and some margaritas is The Border, thats very popular as well. The athletic games are smaller, but are still alot of fun and cheap to get into! Definatly live in the dorms your first year, they are not too bad and you will meet lots of people! Hope this helped! Good luck! |

I don't know what the students do for fun in the town UWG is located, but that school is only 30 minutes away from the metro Atlanta area so I can answer some of your questions. There are no popular beaches in the Atlanta area. You have to drive about 4 hours to get to a beach off the coast. I think Savannah, Ga is the closest city with a beach. We have man made beaches like Lake Lanier and Clayton County Beach, but it's not the same. There's a lot of colleges in the area so you can go to games from different colleges, that way you can meet people from other colleges. That's also the way to find out where to party because most clubs in Atlanta are 21 and up. You'll have to go to college parties. Besides your school we have Georgia State in downtown Atl, Georgia Tech in midtown ATL, Emory in Decatur/ North Atl, University of GA in athens (doubt you'll drive that far), Clark Atlanta University on the westside. Georgia Tech and UGA has good football games. Your school is very close to Six Flags Over Georgia. You will need a car because there's no public transportation that go out that far. If you don't have a car or meet somebody with a car you'll probably be bored |

My first instinct would be to tell you to run as far as you can away from UWG. The school itself is very mediocre and from personal experience the faculty and staff have been less than stellar. There isn't a big sports/ tailgating scene like you would find at UGA or other larger schools. The closest thing to a beach would be John Tanner State park. One good thing though is that it's only about an hour out of Atlanta where you can find a lot of things to do. |
