Question: Which hawaii islands should we visit and how to split up an 8-day honeymoon?

Prefer more city life (shopping, visiting historical sites, a little hiking) than tanning all day on a beach. But of course, it IS Hawaii, so we do want SOME beach time. From surfing the web, sounds like Oahu and Maui are my best choices (first time there for the both of us). |

1 day in Honolulu ~ Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, Pearl harbor ***see the sights*** 3 days on Kauii (the most beautiful lush romantic island there is) ***romance*** 4 days in Maui (activities and splurge on the hotel or resort here especially) ***have fun*** |

Then Waikiki Oahu is the best place for you!!! We live on Oahu and it has so much shopping and lots of dinner shows and entrtainment....best place for ya the other islands are way laid back real small town feel to them.... Maui is not a big shopping place like Waikiki.... Just went to maui for a weekend trip....real rural and country....small towns |

I am planning an 8 day honeymoon as well, and we decided to do Maui and Oahu. Flying on the excellently rated Hawaiian airlines is about 120 roundtrip per person (for interisland flights like Maui to Oahu and back). GO! is 20 bucks cheaper per person, but I am terrified they will go bankrupt before we get there (and you don't get your money back if they do). Maui has a vineyard that I am dying to see and plenty of sights and shopping on the drive to Hana. I am packing an extra bag just for sparkling pineapple wine! Oahu has wonderful shopping in Waikiki, and both places have great active snorkeling/ parasailing/ etc. Waikiki is probably the most notable shopping area in Hawaii, but Maui offers a lot of eclectic options. Consider doing both, 4 days in each will be enough time to have fun without getting bored! |

I think Kauai is the best for Honeymooners. It's not that busy, but you can certainly find things to do, shopping, hiking, snorkeling, or just laying out by the beach. Kauai is definitely one of the most, if not, the most beautiful island on the Hawaiian chain. Check out Kauai Explorer, they have lots of info on the island. |

If you want to see the "real "hawaii--go to the Big Island---mounatins, volcanoes, beaches, snorkeling, lava, waterfalls, rainforests, etc...plus the Hilo side has some very cool markets with locally made goods for shopping and then you can check out the touristy Kona side for their shopping..you'll aprreciate the contrast between the 2 sides of the island...by the way, no matter whicj island you choose dont split up your 8 days, pick one island and spend your whole time exploring that one and dont waste time travelling---each island has enought for 8 weeks of exploring yet alone 8 days--have fun!!! |

8 days is about right to see ONE island, otherwise you'll spend your trip packing and un-packing needlessly. My favorite is Kauai. See these honeymoon condos here: summitpacificinc.com/ kauai-honeymoon.html |
