Question: Can i camp for free on hawaiian beaches?

I am going to hawaii this summer. i am a poor styudent and was planning on camping on beaches for the summer. the question is, where can i camp, do i need a permit, if so where can i get one, what about fishing? basically im trying to get there with minimal funds, and was wondering if this whole "bumming hawaii " thing is feasible... any feedback is helpful and appreciated!!

You have three options: Camp illegally, which I wouldn't recommend . Lots of potential for trouble there. You can camp in certain parks for a limited time period with a camping permit from the state, but you have to plan ahead. There are also some private camp grounds, but obviously this will be the most expensive. Maybe these websites will help some.

You will have to fight for your life with the locals.....the best places on Oahu are Nanakuli, Makaha and Mailii. good luck!!!

You can, but you must make sure its a beach park and its OK (legal) for camping. You also need to obtain a camping permit in Hawaii to camp!

Go buy one van and live in da parking lot by the beach, eat spam and rice, drink water from da hose, cold shower for free at the beach too. no mo fish, kimo catch em all wit his lay net, cheaper fo buy canned hawaiian steak (spam) wit 1 can pork & beans & gravy

Well yes you can camp on the beach in Hawaii "i live here " and every time we go we see people camping on Waikiki beach in Honolulu so you wont be alone there are a lot of homeless people camping to.

Definitely go camping at Makaha! You can pitch your tent there for free. The locals on that side are super friendly so ask them for help in baiting your hook to get your fishing on. It's no problem. If anyone in Waianae talks to you be sure to say "brah " and "kine " every other word to blend in. They'll love you!
